Amazon To Start Its Own Wireless Service

It looks like Amazon wants to get into the business of hosting wireless devices. Apparently it has been testing out wireless spectrum. Anonymous insiders say that Amazon used spectrum owned by satellite communications company Globalstar.

It makes sense that they would be looking into this. By owning its own wireless company, Amazon could charge those buying its tablets for access to the internet. And if Amazon ever does produce a smartphone, it could also charge those owners for wireless service. cha-ching!

Google is doing it as well, currently serving 17 cities with high-speed broadband including Kansas City and Austin, Texas. Much like Google, Amazon is always looking to broaden it’s horizons.
